Jesus and the Disciples: A 3 Minute Overview

Posted by Ash Horton

Jesus's life and ministry is one of the most significant events in human history. In this 3 minute overview we will give you a brief glimpse into what it really means to follow Jesus and why so many have given up everything to do so.

Introduction to the Gospel

The Gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ. It is the story of God’s love for humanity and His plan to save us from our sin. The Gospel is also the story of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. This event changed everything, giving hope to all who believe.

The word “gospel” means “good news.” It is the message of salvation that God offers to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. The Gospel is not just a set of beliefs or principles; it is good news that can change your life forever.

When we understand and accept the Gospel, our lives are transformed. We are given new life in Christ and become part of His family. We are forgiven, healed, and made whole. We have hope for the future and eternal life with God.

Who Were the Disciples?

The twelve disciples were a group of men who followed Jesus during his ministry. They were also some of his closest friends and companions. The word “disciple” simply means “learner” or “follower.”

These twelve men came from various backgrounds and walks of life. Some were fishermen, like Simon Peter and his brother Andrew. Others were tax collectors, like Matthew. Still others were religious scholars, like Nicodemus. But they all had one thing in common: they had each decided to put their trust in Jesus and follow him as their Lord and Savior.

During his three-year ministry, Jesus taught the disciples many things. He taught them about God’s love, about forgiveness, about how to pray, and about how to live a life that is pleasing to God. He also showed them by example what it means to be a servant of others.

After Jesus died on the cross and rose again from the dead, he appeared to the disciples on several occasions over a period of forty days. During these appearances he continued to teach them about the kingdom of God. Finally, he ascended into heaven, leaving the disciples behind to carry on his work.

The eleven remaining disciples (Judas Iscariot had betrayed Jesus and committed suicide) then went out into the world and preached the good news about Jesus Christ. As a result of their efforts, many people came to believe
